Permanent residents:

12 Grimmauld Place was the ancestral home of the Black family.[1] It was passed down from generation to generation, until it was transferred to Sirius Black who gave everything he owned to Harry Potter.[2] It was used as a headquarters for the Order of the Phoenix, even when the ownership was transferred to Harry. The Golden Trio stayed in it for a short amount of time during the Hunt for Horcruxes.[3]

Under Walburga BlackEdit

Walburga Black wanted to protect the house from non-pure-bloods, as the Black family motto stated. Her portrait was hung on the wall behind a curtain, and was somehow permanently stuck there with a Permanent Sticking Charm.

Under Sirius BlackEdit

The house was not well respected when it was owned by Sirius Black, because it was a symbol of his rather dreadful childhood. The house needed much clean-up, which was mostly left to Molly Weasley. The home was in so much despair that Doxies and Boggarts found their way in.[1]

Ground floorEdit

Front hallEdit

The front door opened into a long hallway, lit by a large chandelier. Its wallpaper was getting old and peeling.. Walburga Black's portrait hung in this hallway. There was also a troll-leg umbrella stand, which Nymphadora Tonks casually tripped up over.

The kitchen can be accessed from the narrow staircase at the end of the front hall. There is a table in the center, and a small cabinet where Kreacher sleeps.

First floorEdit

The wall of the staircase leading to the first floor was decorated with the heads of house-elves mounted on fancy pieces of wood. On the first landing, there were about three rooms: a drawing room, a bedroom (which was once shared by Hermione Granger and Ginny Weasley), and a bathroom. The drawing room had long windows facing the street in front of the house, a large fireplace, and the Black family tree on the wall.
